Rare Never-Before-Seen Camelopardalids Meteor Shower in May 2014!
A new never-before-seen major meteor shower, the Camelopardalids meteor shower, awaits us during the nights of 23 and 24 May 2014 as Earth passes through the debris streams of dust that's ejected by Comet 209P/Linear back in the 1800s! The result could be a powerful meteor outburst with up to 200 meteors per hour during its peak! Unlike other radiant points which go from east to west, this one remains in the night sky revolving around the North Polaris star because Camelopardalids is a circumpolar constellation. A circumpolar constellation is a constellation that never sets or never disappears below the horizon when viewed from a given latitude on Earth.
The recommended time to look at it is between 2pm to 4pm SGT and yes you're reading it right! So we're going to miss it because the peak occurs when it's daytime here in Singapore!!!
