My first Milky Way shot of the year 2015 taken on 14 April when the elusive Milky Way was rising above the Kallang river and the Singapore Indoor Stadium (triangular roof) at 2.25am.

02 January 2015 – Supernova in The Superwind Galaxy NGC4666 in Virgo

A supernova, with a temporary name ASASSN-14lp, was discovered earlier in December 2014 and it has become the second brightest supernova of the year 2014 with a 11th magnitude. This Type la supernova is located in the spiral galaxy, Superwind galaxy, in Virgo that is approximately 80 million light years away from Earth. Total exposure time for the above LRGB image is 2 hours. See below image for the location of the supernova.

29 December 2014 – Comet Lovejoy (C/2014 Q2), Spiral Galaxy (NGC1886) and Globular Cluster M79 (NGC1904)

It's been almost 3 months since I last shot the night sky and I'm so glad that I've managed to do this again before 2014 draws to a close. The above LRGB image, with a total exposure time of 12mins, shows a beautiful comet, C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy, and a spiral galaxy, NGC1886, that's located near the left side of the coma. Comet Lovejoy is currently visible to the naked eye at very dark places and it's also possible to capture the comet with just a DSLR and a tripod in Singapore! The waxing moon however, will get in your way before it turns into a full moon on 5 Jan 2015. So you have to be quick if you wish to capture a piece of history because Comet Lovejoy will only return after approximately 8,000 years later. The below chart might help you in locating the potentially dazzling comet. Comet Lovejoy will be closest to Earth on 7 Jan 2015 and doesn't reach perihelion until 30th Jan 2015. The rain was so heavy that we had to do our briefing indoor and 5 photographers were selected to join me at the cageside to capture the explosive actions! EXPOSED: Photo thief Khoo Niamsu stole and passed off one of my National Geographic images as his own work

It has come to my attention that one of my images, which was published in my facebook page and National Geographic, had been stolen by photo thief Khoo Niamsu and he published the stolen image with his watermark on 29 October 2014 in a facebook group. When Khoo Niamsu was asked on the settings and if he had used a tripod for the above image, he continued to mislead the viewers with inaccurate information. The above image was taken in Chiang Mai and not Bangkok as his watermark suggests. And Khoo Niamsu's shameful act was exposed by a facebook member several hours later and he removed the post after I've contacted him. Khoo Niamsu had also posted a few images on Yi Peng Lantern Festival in the same facebook group and you may wish to check them out. You may contact Khoo Niamsu via Facebook here if your images are stolen by him.
