SINGAPORE: While we were busy preparing to usher in the Year of the Horse, the Sun blew out a M6.6-class solar flare during the Solar Eclipse, which was only visible from Space! The Solar Eclipse, better known as the Lunar Transit of the Sun, started at around 21:30 SGT and ended at around midnight where a M6.6-class solar flare was visible and a spectacular fireworks can be seen in Chinatown area to celebrate the beginning of a new year in Chinese calendar. Approximately 90% of the Sun was covered by the Moon during this celestial event which was only visible from Space because the Moon happened to come in between the satellite and the Sun at around 2.5 hours before the Lunar New Year. Such transit usually happen 2 to 3 times a year and usually last for a half hour or so but this one lasted 2.5 hours! Check out the SDO images below on this celestial event.
